News: The Society has a new Name

The „Deutsche Gesellschaft für Völkerrecht“ has given itself a new name its Assembly of Members in Cologne, 30 March 2011. Its new German name is „Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationales Recht“ (German Society of International Law).

The new name underlines the combination of the study of both public and private international law.

The Society

The German Society of International Law is devoted to the promotion of Public International Law, Private International Law and other fields of transnational law. For that purpose, it assembles experts from theory and practice qualified in these fields in common scientific endeavours. The core feature is the biannual conferences to which all members are invited. The papers and discussions are published in the Reports (Berichte) of the Society (German with English summaries). In addition, the Society organises workshops (Studientagungen) concerning particular subjects or relating to particular events. Furthermore, study groups (Studiengruppen) are established to deal with specific problems. The Society is actively engaged in scientific cooperation with societies of a similar character. Regular common activities are organised with the Société française de droit international.
